decoupage, milk paint,
I had this great idea.
At least I thought it was a great idea.
The colors in this little bird picture are so vibrant. It used to be part of an address book I received as a wedding gift. Well that was 32 years ago and the address book is long gone. Who needs to keep a written list of addresses when you have a computer? But ya’ll know me. I saved this page from the book thinking about using it in a project at some point.
My original idea was to use it on a painted project and add a little toner for an aged look.
I used Mod Podge to adhere the picture to the furniture piece.
Making sure there aren’t any bubbles.
in the workshop last night….working on another project.
I kept eyeing my decoupage piece and just was not feeling it. Anyone else been there?
So I took my paint scraper and removed the picture and also lots of paint. I just went to town with it. No pictures because it was a spur of the moment thing.
Now what to do. I came up with another plan, so we’ll see how that works out.
Hopefully I want have to start all over again.
Maybe I’ll finally have this project ready to share later today or tomorrow.
Keep you fingers crossed.

Decoupage is not easy-it all depends upon the paper’s texture. To achieve that flawless, varnished look, you must cut the design down, sand the paper edges in order to minimize the level between the wood and the decoupage picture. Then sand with steel wool, decoupage, let dry and do over and over until the mirror finish is achieved. Magazine pages work well, heavier, like card stock, not so much. It’s an art of patience; otherwise, it looks like a grade school project done with school glue.
