New Used Coffee Table Is A $45 Auction Buy
We bought a really nice used coffee table at an auction. It was $45 and I think that was a pretty good deal. The brand is Ashley. I found similar tables on the Ashley website for between $350 and $500. Nice coffee table on the cheap. We moved Miss Sofi’s cedar chest/coffee table/toy box behind the sofa.
We purchased the used coffee table right after Thanksgiving. As you can see this photo was taken during the Christmas holidays.
The table top has a hinged opening on each of the ends and there is a large space for magazines or whatever. I’m thinking of changing the knobs on the table. I told the JTS that and he said “No Way”, sarcastically. He knows me well and he likes to tease me every once in a while.
The large coffee table looks much better in this spot than the cedar chest. I didn’t go to the auction with the intention of buying furniture for our house but the coffee table was just what we needed. I’m not crazy about the legs but I can live with them.
This is how our living room looked after the Christmas decorations came down. And it still looks this way.The curtains are mostly closed because of the bitter cold. Trying to keep the heat in. Has it been cold where you guys are?
I’ve been going through the house organizing and declutting. A yearly thing now. I’ve organized every room except this one.
The day I took the Christmas tree down I also changed out the décor on the fireplace mantel. The poinsettias were still thriving (mostly) and I left them where they were. As you can see I did not clean up anything before I took photos. I also used my little point and shoot camera and no editing. What you see is how it was. You can tell the resolution in the photos isn’t very good.
My extra home accessories that got displaced during the holidays are waiting to be put in a spot……somewhere.
Sofi collected all the flashlights and battery operated tea lights to play with the other day. After she left I gathered them up and set them on the bookshelf.
Pillows and blankets are tossed all willy nilly as usual. I’ve been using the flannel blanket to cozy up in since it’s been so cold.
When I was taking Christmas down I moved the little tree from the hearth to the dining room table. It stayed there until yesterday. It’s a cute little tree. Again, the room is dark because the curtains are closed against the cold! Notice I keep mentioning that cold thing.
I found two more wheels in my stash and the JTS put them on the bench for me. Now there is extra support in the middle. No sagging. If you missed the bench build you can see it here….Crate Bench.
Have you guys taken all of your Christmas decorations down? Is it cold where you are? Is your house as messy as mine? Leave me a note and I’ll see you next week, Kathy

Wow what a bargain! The table is beautiful and $45.00 well spent. Yes it is very cold here too and I have kept my blinds and curtains closed too. I love having the natural light during the day, but it is just too cold.
Kathy Owen says
I agree. It’s warmed up here but going to turn cold again the end of the week.

That’s a really nice coffee table. I bought a wood end table with a glass insert at Ashley and it was over $300. so you got a really good deal!

My living room looks like a blanket fort gone wrong! Blanket for me, blanket for hubby, blankets in dog beds and in the other places they prefer to lay!!
I did very little decorating this year and it is still there. Maybe while we are snowed in I will do something about that!

You have a lot of brown pieces, which is surprising given how much you love color. Hutches, coffee table, shelves, chest, sofas… Is it that you’re burned out from all the work you do with your flea market finds? 🙂
Kathy Owen says
Haha, I do have a lot of brown pieces but I my accessories usually have a lot of color. The red radio cabinet is in this room but the photo was horrible so I didn’t share it. The rest of my home is much more colorful!

Nice buy – good for you!
But cold, there, eh? I notice that your curtains are unlined…… When we lived in an apartmentment without double glazing, all our curtains were lined – otherwise we would have lived in our overcoats! Perhaps you could find a way of lining some curtains using your no-sew method if the cold hangs around? Or, for quickness, what about hanging another pair of curtains at each window so that there is more fabric in the way of the cold? Anyway – stay warm.

Nice and practical coffee table. I like that it has some storage. I always need a place for magazines–ones I want to keep but aren’t current. I like the spaciousness of your living room-dining room areas. I also really like the flooring in your dining area. It looks like what I might like in my kitchen. I have to replace what’s there and I’m going neutral.
It’s bloody cold here in Michigan, too. I am even in the lower peninsula and it’s still bloody cold! I’ve been under the weather since right before Christmas so I haven’t been out of the house in days until tonight when I went to do a couple errands. I was plenty glad to come back to my (semi-) warm house. Even with quite adequate insulation the rooms to the north on the front and back corners of the house get really cold. I have a little heater in my bedroom that I turn on a little while before I go to bed and that helps. The only thing I like about this weather is that the snow is staying on the ground and the trees instead of it thawing and then everything is brown and muddy-looking and I have to wipe the dog’s feet everytime he comes in. But I think the snow would still hang around with it a little warmer than single digits!
Have a great weekend! Looking forward to more projects in the weeks to come!

Wonderful find for the coffee table-when will you paint it and change the knobs and legs? HaHa. I don’t decorate a lot odr holidays because everything is so temporary, but I do decorate seasonaly-autumn leaves spring flowers-etc. Although this year I made a Christmas wreath-Turned out well if I do say so mysel. I will leave it up as long as I can(until i can find a place to store it).

Great find and great price, most secondhand furniture here is over priced compared to you all in the States. Tree is still up, busy converting a side of the road buffet find into tv entertainment unit. Sorry you guys are freezing we are off to the beach tomorrow with a 30’c + day conversion is 86’f, hello from Australia.
Sandra says
Kathy, that was a great find! Enjoy your new coffee table. Looks really good in your living room.

Oh yes Kathy. It’s freezing here in Maryland and we are dealing with a large storm. Yes, I have a lot of displaced items also. But I usually do because I like to change things up. Sometimes it gets frustrating. But I have gathered some good organizational ideas from you to put into place. I am working on it. Most of our Xmas decorations are down. Just have some wreaths outside to take down. Ph, and most importantly I wanted to tell you that the coffee table is very nice. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year! 🚡🎉

I really like the new coffee table. And what a bargain!
I live in Northeast Florida and it is soooo cold. When it gets down in the 20’s we think we’re freezing to death! I know that’s nothing compared to what you’re having. We’re actually from Kentucky but have forgotten the feel of cold weather.😀
Yes my Christmas decorations are still up, but I don’t care! Ha!

Great find in the coffee table…I need one desperately.. It soooo cold here in Central KY…we have cold snaps but this is many weeks in the teens-single digits….I’m ready to move someplace tropical….All of Christmas was done by January 3…not as much fun to undecorated….most houses look lived in and I like it that way…couldn’t be happy in a “showcase” home…I have 2 boys and 2 dogs…lived in is just fine.
Laura Werley says
Kathy, the coffee table is perfect in size and color for the room. I also love that you didn’t tidy up or ‘stage’ your house for the photos. All of us can relate to that partial post Christmas time when you spy just one more decoration you left out, or the organizing that makes more mess before it gets better. We are colder than usual here in Texas, but nothing we can’t live with – it’s supposed to be high 50’s this weekend, so there’s that. And I have put away all my Christmas decorations, but can’t find all my ‘normal’ decorations that I put away to make room for the Santa’s and snowmen.
Becky says
I’m also missing normal decorations. As I decorate for Christmas, I remove the everyday things and store them in the tubs I use for Christmas decor. I guess I didn’t pack away all my stuff, as there’s a couple of things I have to search for now. What fun, but it has warmed me up in the process! It’s too cold to move around here. Our winters are usually mild with the coldest in late January and February.
Kathy, I like that coffee table. You are so lucky to have access to auctions that fill your home and workshop with all those treasures.

Cold for SW FL here. I don’t miss the time I lived in Ohio and am glad to be back in FL.
