It is easy to create beautiful Christmas cake stands using Christmas-themed dishes from Dollar Tree, TJ Maxx, and thrift stores. The serving stands, or display stands, are unique pieces that can be personalized to your taste.

I have a set of Christmas dishes and odd Christmas pieces I fell in love with, usually shopping after Christmas sales. I thought about using a few of those, but the ones I found while shopping last week were colorful and bold, so I worked with them.
You can personalize your dessert stands with inherited dishes or pieces special to you. Also, mix and match Christmas dishes with solid colored pieces.

I use a combination of hot glue and regular glue for projects like this. Hot glue might not always be permanent, but it holds stuff together right away, whereas super glue or regular glue makes the connection permanent. I use the two together to solve both issues.

This first set of dishes is a thrift store find. I love the design and the bold colors, and the price was right. Each piece was 99 cents, and I had an additional “old person” discount.

I found the pretty red-and-white scalloped-edge plate at TJMaxx.

It was $7. It’s okay to occasionally buy items you love, even if they are above your budget. This plate can be used year-round and would be lovely in a Valentine’s Day tablescape.

All of the pieces in the photo above came from Dollar Tree. I liked the colors and designs. Even the charger was pretty and looked Christmasy.

Since all the pieces were similar colors, the bowls and plates could be paired in various ways, and I tried them all to see which combinations looked best.

My super glue had dried up, and my new tube of super glue was a generic brand, and it was like water, running everywhere. I opted for Gorilla glue along with the hot glue.

I know the glue job doesn’t look very neat, but no one is going to see it. I’ve said this before: I love my battery-powered Ryobi cordless glue gun. It might be pricey, but it’s well worth it if you craft a lot.

Once I had the hot glue and the regular glue on the bottom of the bowl, I set it on the underside of the TJMaxx plate. With hot glue, once you place the items together, there is no adjusting. I think I got the bowl centered pretty well on the plate.

Once I had all the pieces together, I weighted them down with canned goods to make sure the glue bonded well.
I like all of them except the charger piece. The charger is too large, or the bowl is too short!

I didn’t create cake stands with all of the dishes. The design of the JOY plate works well with several of the dishes, so I just set it on top of them to change the look.
The dishes actually look great stacked together as a Christmas display. The bowl on top is one of my Spode Christmas pieces. I have several pieces of the Spode Christmas Tree dishes and glassware I gathered over the years at after-Christmas sales, usually 75% off.

Next, I went to the fridge and the cabinets to find goodies to display. I don’t know what the best name for this DIY project is…..cake stand, dessert stand, display stand. What do you think?
The thrift-store dinner plate is beautiful, and I love that peppermint bark. It came from TJMaxx too and is not as good as the Williams Sonoma brand but not as pricy either.
You can find the recipe for my Knorr Spinach Dip on my recipe website. We don’t like the bread with our dip, so I don’t bother putting it in a bread bowl.

Those butter cookies used to be Miss Sofi’s favorites. Now she doesn’t eat them.
I made the Spinach Dip for Thanksgiving Day. We like Wheat Thins and Sociables with our dip.
I really like that little JOY plate from Dollar Tree.
So, are you ready to make some cake plates? Have fun, Kathy
