How To Paint A Ginger Jar

Paint a ginger jar with silk mineral paint for a smooth finish. I promise there will be no brush marks!
Now you might think the ginger jar sitting on our fireplace mantel is a pretty color, and it is. But I don’t love the color and and it doesn’t fit my decor.
The ginger jar belonged to my Mom. Last month after Dad passed away my sister, brother, and I had to go through my parent’s home and decide what to do with things.
My sister inherited the house so it’s staying in the family but she doesn’t need all the “stuff”. When someone has lived in the same home for 65 years there is a lot of stuff.
The ginger jar came home with me and I’m giving it a makeover for our Thrift Store Decor Tour. Be sure and take the tour after reading my project tutorial!
The landscape art over our fireplace is from Hobby Lobby. I wanted to paint the ginger jar a color that would work with the art piece. The glossy mauve finish just seemed outdated and it needed to go.
The ginger jar was the same shiny mauve color on the interior from top to bottom.
The Acadia paint color from Dixie Belle is a favorite of mine and a couple of the side tables in our family room are painted this color.
The Acadia color also blends well with the colors in the art piece.
I brushed two coats of Dixie Belle Silk Mineral Paint, Acadia color, over the outside of the jar, the inside lip, and the top to the jar. The drying time for each coat was about 30 minutes.
The silk mineral paint is an all-in-one, meaning it contains a primer and a sealer. The paint adhered well to the slick finish on the jar.
The ginger jar was painted and back in place on the mantel in less than 3 hours. I’m in love with the new look. The matte finish is perfect.
