How To Decorate For Christmas With Thrifted And Vintage Decor

Hey Friends! I finally took photographs of my Christmas decor. I went a little light on the decor this year, but there is still plenty of decorations to let you know it’s Christmas when you step in the back door (back door people here).

I bought new furniture for our family room back in the Spring and promised to share the new look with you when I had the redecorating done. Well, I’m still redecorating so I haven’t shared it. You can get snippets of what it looks like here.

I changed my whole color scheme from greens, oranges, and yellows (earth tones) to blues, peaches, and navy. It is a significant change, but softer too, and it’s growing on me.

I love the framed print I got at Hobby Lobby a few months ago. I’m using it for color inspiration. I purchased the slightly frazzled-looking wreath at a thrift store. I like the imperfection.

Then I just added a bit of Christmas decor to the mantel. When the holidays are over, I plan to leave the wreath pinned to the print and the vases—an easy and simple look.

I made three Christmas decor purchases this year. The handmade stocking is one of them. I love the colors and design.

Thrifted metal tree.

The hubby purchased the vintage tree stand at an auction several years ago and if I remember correctly he paid $5 for it. What a deal.

The Putz village houses are one of my favorite things.

I purchased the houses at an estate sale. They belonged to our neighbor’s mother. She traveled the world with her husband (military spouse) and bought these overseas at one of their duty stations.

If you guys have been here a while, you will recognise my Hardware Christmas Tree.

Another purchase this year was a new Christmas tree. Our old one was still good, but after 10 years, I was ready for a new one with more lights. Can you have too many lights? Maybe, lol.

Our old tree went to our granddaughter for her first house-sharing experience with a friend. This new tree came from Sam’s Club.

A look from the doorway to the kitchen. The photos aren’t the greatest because I didn’t bother with a lighting attachment. Resolution and lighting could be better.

Over in one corner is my wrapping stash, close to my worktable in the family room.

Not much decor in the kitchen.

My fine China (paperware). I also made more Dollar Tree gifts this year, and the cellophane-wrapped packages are peeking through the dinnerware. I will share the gift idea tomorrow.

Sometimes it’s the simple things. I like the lighted snowman.

The third and last Christmas item I purchased this year.

I’m a sucker for lighted houses and the trees were included.

how to display Christmas village houses

My usual display of Christmas village houses on cake stands for the dining room table.

The houses are almost vintage. I purchased them from a local shop 17 years ago.

A stocking and angel. The room is decorated in red and navy so it looks Christmasy anyway.

Now for the not so pretty part and a blurry photo. This is “Sofi’s bedroom” at our house. Remember I painted a desk for her room.

Well, we moved the desk in, but haven’t put things back in the drawers after moving out the old piece. I noticed a slight musty odor to the desk after moving it into the bedroom. I need to clean it with vinegar before putting things in the drawers and putting it back together.

That’s it for me! I just took photos around the house without picking up things. Well, I did clean off the kitchen counters. What about the decor? Thanks for being here, Kathy

Merry Christmas to you and your family. I saw the sweet vintage plastic blow mold house last year on your blog. I loved it so much that I searched online and bought one online.
