Auction Buys: Art Decor Cedar Chest, Desk, And Chest Of Drawers

Hi Guys! Hope everyone is doing well and the New Year is treating you good. This girl has been really lazy. I just took my tree down this week and put away all the Christmas decor.

At least I thought I put it all away. I finally pulled out my dusting rag this morning and, while dusting, found two more Christmas decorations in the bedrooms. You might think I have it all packed away. No

All of the Christmas decorations, including the tree, are in the Owen Workshop. The tree and Christmas dishes are all packed away but the rest of the items are in boxes and totes waiting to be sorted.

Have you put your Christmas away? Getting organized for the year? Let’s get on with my auction furniture….

auction cedar chest

I know!!!! What a beauty. I don’t know if this is one of a kind, but I’ve never seen a cedar chest like this. I had to have it for myself. No resell.

vintage cedar chest

So, I paid more than I normally would for furniture to resell, but for $95, I thought I got a deal. The cedar chest looks really good in the photos, but it does have some issues.

I’m working on that, and you can see the makeover on Furniture Fixer Upper Day later this month.

wood chest of drawers

This chest of drawers was $60. I plan to paint it white or black. Do you have any other ideas to spruce it up a little more?

desk

This large industrial-type desk was $27, and the JTS will replace the desk he uses in the workshop with this one.

desk drawer

The desk has plenty of storage and is better than the one he uses now.

large frame with old photo

The framed photo was $15. I bought it for the frame and will paint it. The photo will be taken to my booth at the shop.

More about the holidays. I did a LOT of cooking. The Christmas and New Year holidays are when I go all out.

Some of the things I made…..Corn Pops Crunch Candy, Spinach Dip, Haystacks Candy, Rocky Road Fudge, two different kinds of Cheese Balls, Sausage Wontons, Cheese Dip, Chex Party Mix, Ham Tortilla Rollups, Slow Cooker Mississippi Pork Roast, Deviled Eggs, Stuffed Mushrooms, and Hashbrown Casserole.

My son made chicken and dressing for Christmas Eve dinner, Sofi made Grinch Cookies, and Tenley made delicious baked brussels sprouts.

The family (son, two granddaughters, and the oldest granddaughter’s boyfriend) is coming over for dinner tonight, and I’m making Chili with all the fixings. We will have hot dogs, loaded tater tots, and homemade appetizers and desserts – sour cream, grated at-home cheese, avocados, cheese dip, green onions, and bacon bits for toppings.

Tell me what you have been up to, and if you do a lot of cooking and entertaining during the holidays. Also, how do you like that cedar chest??

Thanks for being here, Kathy

  1. I know what you mean about exhausted and stressed. I may go on strike next Christmas!

  2. I did not much cooking at all for Christmas and New Year’s. My kids were over for about 4 hours, and that included time opening gifts. I like the new version of Christmas where I’m not exhausted and stressed. Worth the trade off. I do love hearing about other people’s menus – your food sounds good. That cedar chest is in great condition!

  3. Love your cedar just. I hit one almost the same. The only difference was the bottom of it it was in really bad shape. You’re looks really good. I sold it after painting for $70. It cost me less than $25.
I love all the different foods you cooked. You worked a lot.
I’m almost 80 and our daughters and granddaughter did all the cooking. They worry about us too much.
    I love all your posts❤️❤️

  4. I, too, bought a cedar chest at an auction, intending to resell it. It’s still with me 15+ years later. I just can’t let it go … yet.

The dresser has a good look overall, although rather plain. I’d paint the drawer pulls a metallic color (with several layers of good topcoat for protection).

If you’re feeling really confident, adding an interesting decoupaged graphic would add an extra design touch to it.

You were BUSY over the holidays! Wish I’d been eating over at your house!
Some beautiful finds too – really unusual cedar chest.
    Happy New Year.
