DIY Easter Display: Repurpose A Shoe Box Into Seasonal Decor

Create a fun Easter display or Spring centerpiece with plastic eggs, a green moss mat, floral pieces, and a repurposed shoe box.
I don’t know about you, but I have an abundance of shoe boxes. I don’t store my shoes in their boxes. Instead of tossing them out, I save them to store small junk stuff in the workshop.
Today is Thrift Store Decor Tour Day and as usual we are sharing unique ways to upcycle thrifty finds or old outdated decor. The tour starts at the end of my tutorial.
I was looking around our workshop last week trying to find an inspiration piece for this month’s project, but I wasn’t having much luck. Then I spotted my pile of boxes and that was it.
I knew I had this moss mat I found at the thrift store eons ago and I came up with the Easter display idea.
I removed the shoe box top using a pair of scissors. It was the kind of shoe box with a flap top instead of a separate top.
Then I measured the mat and cut a piece large enough to wrap around the shoe box with an extra inch in height to jut over the top of the box.
My Ryobi cordless glue gun is perfect for projects like this. I strung hot glue from one of that box to the other and pressed the mat to the box while the glue dried. (you can find various sizes of moss mats on Amazon)
I did such a good job you can’t even tell where the two ends meet!
It took about 5 minutes to get this far into the project. That moss sure made a mess while I was working with it.
I added filler paper in the bottom of the box because I only had so many plastic eggs and I wasn’t going to the store to buy more.
Sometimes I throw away the eggs from our Easter hunts, but sometimes I save them. I had this bag stashed away.
And just enough to fill the box to overflowing…..with the filler in the bottom.
I thought the display needed something else and I had this spring garland I bought last year at a wholesale shop. It was perfect.
I cut flower pieces from the garland using wire cutters and hot glued them to the sides of the box.
And this fun Easter centerpiece is sitting on our dining room table.
The rabbits were left over from a project our Plaid Ambassador group created for a Michael’s store promotion many years ago. It’s hard for me to toss anything out.
The colors are so vibrant and you guys know I love bold colors.
On Easter day, I can take those eggs out of the display and then return them after the hunt.
This project is one of those that makes me smile. How about you?
