How To Spray Paint Plastic Cherub Statues

Plastic statues can sometimes be a bit tacky, and a makeover is needed. This small plastic cherub I found at my favorite junk shop is a prime example.
The colors on the cherub were too loud and just wrong. The brown gown was not pretty, but the hearts were a plus.
For today’s Thrift Store Decor Tour, I gave the cherub a new, fresh look. And I’m so excited about our tour today because we have two new team members…..Michelle, Our Crafty Mom, and Marianne, Songbird. They have been upcycling thrifty finds for years, and their projects today are fantastic! Be sure to take the tour!
I decided to paint the cherub using a neutral paint color, making it look more like a statue for a graveside. The Krylon paint color, Greek Stone, fit the bill for me because it was on my paint shelf!
I went to tag the color on Amazon, but I guess it has been discontinued. That happens when I use the paint I have in stock. This color is similar but doesn’t have the hint of green.
Next I dry-brushed the details with white paint.
I thought the little cherub looked lovely and I took a few pictures. After examining the photos, I decided that more dry-brushed white paint was needed.
Now the hearts on the gown and the wavy hair stand out. I have a thing for cherubs. Did you know they represent love and innocence?
This is a simple 10-minute project, excluding drying time. Spray painting small items is super fast. The spray paint dries in about 20 minutes, and dry brushing takes at most a couple of minutes.
I took the sweet cherub to my booth at the vintage/antique shop and it sold the first day.
Now it’s time to take the Thrift Store Decor Tour! Just click the links below the “before” makeovers photo collage……

Wow, that is a stunning makeover. I must admit I would have walked by your little cherub in her original state. Great vision, to see what she could become with a little paint.
