Before heading to Dollar Tree, you should have an idea of how many gifts you need to make and a theme. But get ready to be flexible.
Decide whether you want to build your gift from a cup, a plastic tray, a plant pot, a decorative box, or something seasonal. Do you want to personalize the gift, say for a crafter, a gardener, or a car fanatic?
Are you thinking about sweet treats, personal products, or handy-to-have-on-hand items?
I once made a gift caddy for the junk drawer that included scissors, tape, pens, paper clips, envelopes, thumb tacks, magnets, and more.
For the Dollar Tree gift bags I’m featuring today, I went into the store with an open mind and found some cute candleholders. A couple were Christmas-themed, and one can be displayed year-round.
I also purchased some good-tasting candy and LED tealights. The metal bird was calling my name because it’s red! I started putting the first gift bag together with the red bird and a tealight.
Then I started stuffing candy around the tealight. There is no way to keep it neat when the candleholder is so small, but once it’s wrapped in cellophane, it will look fine.
I decided one of the Santa candies should be packaged on the front side of the bird.
The cellophane came from Dollar Tree, too. I always have a supply on hand.
I cut a large piece of cellophane (cut more than you think you need, you will need it), set the candleholder and goodies in the middle, pulled the wrap up, and tied it with curly ribbon. I always have curly ribbon on hand, too. If you don’t know how to curl ribbon…..well, you should.
The next candleholder is a Santa!
I saw these cute little gingerbread house candies and decided to use it in the tealight spot.
Then I added candy around it.
Then I wrapped it up just like the first one.
Isn’t Santa colorful? I made the Dollar Tree gift bags the same day I put together the cake stands. If you missed the cake stands…. Christmas Cake Stands Created With Dollar Tree, TJMaxx, and Thrift Store Dishes
While I was taking photos, I realized I’d forgotten the gingerbread house tealight holder. It got left on the counter when I gathered all my stuff.
So I put it together too. I had plenty of candy and tealights.
The Christmas holidays always call for peppermint candy. The soft peppermint was my Dad’s favorite. He also loved having walnuts and pecans in the shell.
He would get out the nut-cracking bowl set, and I would wait for him to crack the shells and give me the good stuff. Do you guys remember the wooden bowl with the metal hinged nut cracker and the little metal picks?
Just to be a bit different, I filled the gingerbread house with shredded paper.
And that’s a wrap!
I keep these Dollar Tree gift bags on hand for when friends and neighbors stop by. I never let them leave empty-handed. If I’ve made my Christmas candy and have plenty, I send them out the door with homemade goodies.
What do you think of these ideas? Ready to head to Dollar Tree? Thanks for being here, Kathy
