How to make a multi-purpose pedestal stand with a thrift store vase and thrift store platter.

Today is Thrift Store Decor Day, and my project is really simple. You may already have the pieces and parts to take this idea and run with it. If not, you can always find what you need at your local flea market, junk shop, or thrift store.

I found my project pieces at Goodwill. The platter was $1.99. I loved the details, the shape, the color shading….all of it.

Once I found the dish, I started looking through the store shelves for a candleholder. Candleholders usually make a good base or pedestal for a cooker stand or similar piece. None of the candleholders or similar pieces worked with the platter I had picked out.

When I went through the vases, I found the pink vase with a chipped lip. It was $1.99, and I didn’t even get a discount!

The shape of the vase was perfect. The platter needed a little more oomph than a skimpy candleholder.

The platter had a light taupe color around the details, and I wanted the pedestal color to be similar. I searched my spray paint shelves but didn’t have a match for the plate.

Spray painting is so easy, but I had to move on to something else. The Badlands color in Dixie Belle Silk paint was perfect.

I was afraid brush marks would be noticeable with brushed-on paint, but they weren’t at all.

I don’t know why I painted the inside top third of the vase because there is no way it will be seen once the platter is glued on top.

I applied two coats of paint. In between coats of paint on any project, I wrap my wet paintbrush in a glove, plastic wrap, or plastic bag.

use Gorilla Glue to adhere glass to glass

Once the vase was dry, I squeezed drops of Gorilla Glue around the top edge of the vase.

Then I turned the platter bottom side up and turned the vase upside down in the center of the platter to set the glue. I put the Dixie Belle paint container on the vase to apply pressure or weight while the glue dried.

The next day, the glue was dry, and I set up to take photos. I should have made cookies or something for the photos, but I was too lazy. Not really.

The real reason I didn’t make cookies is that it was the weekend, and the JTS and I were the only ones there. There was no Sofi after school or family dinners. I didn’t need to eat all of those cookies myself!

Cookies or cupcakes or mini cakes or even several stems of grapes would look awesome on the stand.

But remember, I billed this as a multi-purpose pedestal stand, so here it is on my dresser with several strands of pearls.

The photo on the dresser was dark so I moved the stand with pearls to the bathroom vanity for the photo above.

And that’s it. I bet you have the things you need to put together a display stand. Get creative with it using a candleholder, vase, or even a fruit jar for the base. In place of a plate, you could use a pie pan, wood cutting board, or silverplate tray.
