Cheap DIY Home Decorating Projects
There are 100 project ideas in all!
Birdhouse Makeover – Cheap DIY Home Decorating
The old falling-apart birdhouse I junked up with my reclaimed hardware is my favorite project of the year. Adding those details to the birdhouse made it fabulous. It is still hanging in the tree beside our workshop.
Decorative Glass Jar
The reader’s favorite of the year was the display I made in a thrift store jar. Actually, I made more than one display. I added a glass drawer pull to the top of the jar. That’s easy to do. Then I made the bird and nest display.
The glass container is sitting on the kitchen countertop right now, full of chocolate candy. Before long, I will change that and add a Winter scene. Stay tuned.
Jewelry Tray
I think the tray originally held a gift set. I spray-painted the outside of the tray turquoise and left the original copper color inside.
Upcycled Thrift Store Mirrors
My favorite wall decor project of the year was the piece I made to hang in Sofi’s room over the bed. The trio of mirrors and the reclaimed wood cabinet frame were a match made in Heaven.
It’s time to share the favorites from my Thrift Store Decor team. It was hard to pick one favorite from each blogger so you might want to check out all 100 projects in the photo links at the end of the post. Bookmark this post so you can find it again.
Cloisonné Vase
You can find glass vases anytime you visit a thrift store. So go get some vases if you don’t have some at home. You can paint the vases like Sarah did and customize them to your paint scheme.
Gold Dipped Step Stool Makeover
To appreciate this makeover, you have to see how the stepstool looked before. You can find the complete tutorial for the step stool makeover here.
Badminton Racket Repurpose
This project makes me smile every time I see it. Of course, Pam is a junker after my own heart. Every time she makes one of her vintage decor displays, I uh and ah.
I had some rackets at one time and ended up selling them in my booth. I’m on the hunt for some really pretty ones like these. Pam made chalkboards and bulletin boards with her vintage rackets. See the project here.
Santos Angel Makeover
You guys know how I love angels. You have probably seen my “Angels of Reclaim” made out of junk. Well those are pretty but this wood angel that was a really ugly color is so pretty now after Christy gave it a new paint job. We all love spray paint projects and this one is a winner.
Octopus Shell Art
Do you have a bunch of seashells from a beach adventure? Make starfish art, or sand dollar art or an octopus using seashells like this one by Maryanne. Find out how to put together the seashell art here.
Perpetual Calendar
Gail stenciled and decorated this perpetual Calendar for Christmas. I never see these at the thrift store. I’m sure they show up occasionally. Maybe I’ll run across one at the first of the year when everyone is organizing and getting rid of things. Yall do that right?
