Buying Old Junk To Create New Home Decor

Time to share a couple of junk shopping trips and the things I bought. I haven’t made it to the junk shop very much in the past couple of months. I like to go at least every two weeks but either we have been out of town or the junk shop has been closed.

I bought the rusty glider for $20. The front glider parts were broken and when I got it home the JTS (aka Junktion Technical Specialist, aka hubby) repaired them for me. I placed it under the tree near the workshop garage door.

There should be something I could do with all those bird bath bases. Does anyone have ideas for me?

I don’t know why but I couldn’t resist the cart. One reason is that the price was $5. It is just sitting in the workshop.

Before I left the junk shop, I filled it with terra cotta pots. I spray painted and decorated a few of the pots and you can see them here…How To Spray Paint Terra Cotta Clay Flower Pots

I passed on the table. For some reason, I have a hard time selling this style of vintage table.

I didn’t buy the bed because I have a hard time selling single or double beds.

The dresser is a free piece from my neighbor. I already painted it, and Wow, the dresser looks so much better. You get to see it on Furniture Fixer Upper Day this month.

Not a very good photo but his little piece is a rusty metal stand about two feet tall. I plan to clean it up and spray paint it white.

Not sure what the wood piece is but it is definitely old. It may be a homemade lid…..to something. I bought it for $2. I may just hand it on the wall after applying a bit of wax to it.

I bought the green leather stool for $10. It will get a good cleaning and then I will condition the leather and sit it in our living room.

I bought a baby quilt but didn’t get a photo of the whole thing.

I bought the top three buckets for $5 each.

My last purchase was this silver plate piece. They had a whole box of silver plate serving dishes that had just come into the store. I like this piece, although it was a bit womper jawed.

Well, that’s it. What do you think of my purchases? Any project ideas for me? Thanks for being here, Kathy

  1. ive made a beautiful garden bench out of a bedhead , base and foot of the bed. Pinterest has plenty of ideas what to do with old beds.

  2. Wow what a haul!!! Wonderful shop and great picks! Can’t wait to see what you do with them. Long time follower. Love your posts!

  3. You scored big time!
That stackable foot stool is a gem!
I would keep that cart for moving my big potted plant/tree in & outdoors. The bird bath would be super cute filled with sand & sea shells then topped with a piece of clear glass for a patio table.
That’s a super cute wire magazine rack, also a keeper! You could even use it as an outdoor table topper to hold paper plates, napkins, condiments etc.
I cant wait to see what you did with that dresser!! I love what you do!

  4. I think the small piece of wood is part of a milk churn. My aunt has my grandmother’s the hole is where the wood handle goes. May be wrong.

  5. Good morning 🌞,
That is a great haul! I love that glider😊 I have seen bird baths used as table bases in a garden shop once and they were beautiful 😍

  6. “What a great haul.
For them birdbath stands; get some good outside glue and secure some saucers on top and then use as a plant stand or plant succulents, sedum in the sauces or with saucer glued on well, still can be used a shallow birdbath.
Can also glue some sort of pot on top and plant herbs in it or annual flowers.
Secure a wooden circle on top and use inside as a plant stand.
Me, I would had bought every single one of them stands.
Many uses for them birdbath stands.
