{ painting over the polka dots }
Hey guys. Today’s project is a do-over. I really hate re-painting a piece of furniture. Especially if it’s a project I enjoyed doing.
{See the tutorial for the metallic silver polka dot table by clicking here }
I painted this table a long time ago. Over a year and a half ago to be exact. I liked it but I guess no one else did. No, that’s not true. A lot of times people come through the shop and they remark on how much they like a certain piece. But they don’t buy it.
Some of the furniture pieces I paint are a little different. They don’t fit into every home decor style. It takes that one right person to come in the store and say “Hey, that’s just what I’ve been looking for”.
I really don’t like painting black, white, or neutral colored furniture all of the time. I’m not whining, just stating facts.
Anyway, I went up to the shop where my booth is located and started painting. My plan was to paint the whole table black. While prepping to paint I decided to just paint the top.
So that’s what I did. Then I distressed it. (Surprise)
I’m a really messy painter and I grabbed the painters tape to tape around the apron of the table top. Can you see where the tape pulled off some of the paint. The metallic paint is spray paint. I fell in love with the Rustoleum Metallic paint and decided to paint this table with it. Now you know why I don’t normally use spray paint for furniture. I decided I liked the look of the peeled off paint so I purposely taped around the table apron several times and pulled off the paint. I know, I’m a little nuts.
What do you guys think of the redo?

See you tomorrow,

I loved both looks…but experience tells me most people would pick the “safe” buy (black top) I also have trouble with your site…don’t know why!

I LOVED that table with the polka dots. It was one of my favorites but sometimes you need to change things up again! I have a table that I was sure was going to sell soon but it’s still sitting in my space. I’m sure your new redo will sell soon.

The table looks great. What kind of tape did you use? I heard that Frog painter’s tape is the best. Kathy, just curious…..what is that by the left front leg…..smile.

I would wait a long time to decide to repaint a piece too. Do-overs aren’t as much fun as the first time around! I enjoy the polka dots, and I am going to remember that for when I start decorating this new place we’re in! I do like the new look, too.

Love the metallic look, even the polka dots, but it understand that the black top will appeal to more people. Either way, it looks nice!

I think the new look will appeal to a broader audience now Kathy. Don’t you just love those ooops that turn into unexpected gifts. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear from you that it sold soon!
P.S. I ditto what Jeannie said.

FYI, Kathy I have always loooooved your blog, however your new updated blog page is very very hard to download!! It takes forever and trying to scroll is horrible. Not sure if it is because of all the ads or problem with the webpage. Just thought you would want to know….even typing this comment, takes a while for the typed text to catch up, if that makes sense!! Again, I feel this might be something that can be corrected.
Thanks,
Jeannie
