Going above and beyond with dining room chair makeovers is worth the time and effort. Paint for the wood frame and a new fabric for the padded seat will make the original chair unrecognizable…..in a good way.
I have a love/hate relationship with chairs. They’re a pain in the bu#^% to paint. But…..they look so great after the makeover, especially if the chair has a fabric covered seat.
Since the number of paint colors and fabric choices are endless you will never see a chair makeover like yours….unless someone admires your taste and is a total copycat.
The very first project I posted on my website was a chair makeover. See how my chair makeovers have evolved (fancy word) over the past 9 years….
13 Dramatic Dining Room Chair Makeovers
Take an old wood side chair and cover the seat with a Floral Mosaic Fabric in Royal Blue.
This painted vintage wood chair is my first ever project for my first ever blog post. That being said, I am going to just jump right in. Here goes…..
I love using drop cloths for seat covers. The cloths are inexpensive and the neutral color works anywhere....
Dining room chairs with arms are my favorite and this fabric I found at the junk shop is gorgeous....
I’ve been reorganizing and de-cluttering this week and I decided to paint one of the chairs for the granddaughters bedroom. I used a chalky spray paint and the color is waterfall.
The grey has a great sheen….almost like a pearl finish. I’ve used Beyond Paint for years and I can’t even tell you how many projects I’ve completed with the paint. A bunch for sure. This is the first time I’ve used the Soft Grey.
The chair seat fabric is bold! I asked for advice then didn’t take it. That happens sometimes but not often. The chairs with the light paint and the bold fabric are gorgeous. Take a look…..
This yellow dining room chair isn’t hum drum anymore. I love the bright, cheerful, color and the fabric for the seat is fun and stylish. Just wait until you see the fabric. It’s a winner for sure. I wish I had bought several yards of the fabric instead of just one.
Cane back chairs are the perfect makeover project and there are a ton of these vintage chairs out there. The cane looks great painted.
The one furniture makeover all of you should take on is a wood dining room chair with a fabric seat. It’s a project that will give you the most dramatic change with the least amount of work.
First Waterfall Chair I've found. Some readers suggested I stencil the back of the chair because it's too plain. What do you think?
Fun project and perfect for a girls room. The green paint for the chair is one of my favorite colors.
You might be surprised with the fabric choice for this chair seat. It wasn't a cut of fabric. See the surprise item here...
Did I inspire you with my dining room chair makeovers? I hope so. That was my goal. Maybe think about painting a chair since the weather is turning nice and thoughts of redecorating are in your head?
If you have a makeover to share with me you can email a photo to me at [email protected]
Tomorrow is Thrift Store Decor day and my project is very timely. Spring inspired. As always thanks for being here and have a great day, Kathy

You are absolutely right! The fabric does make the chair, and why not go with bold and beautiful colors and match the paint to the fabric. I like many of them, but I love the pink chair with the white woven back and the pretty polka dot seat cover.

Thank you Barbara. The fabric is a vintage pillowcase I fell in love with at a shop on Pensacola. I had the set for years. Hated to cut it up but the makeover turned out great.
