There are as many silver plate repurpose ideas as there are stars in the sky, and you can find silver plate items really cheap at thrift stores and flea markets. So get ready to make a DIY project or a simple display!

I paid $10 for this beautiful assortment of silver plate (silverplate) items. I love a good auction. I have a lot of ideas for these pieces and always search Pinterest for inspiration. Take a look at some of my earlier repurpose projects and a few amazing projects I discovered recently. Let me know if you have a favorite.
1. Containers for Faux Succulents
The small sugar and creamer from my auction haul and a silver-decorated glass creamer from my china cabinet look awfully pretty filled with river rocks and faux succulents. You probably remember the faux succulents from when I showcased them in thrift store glasses.
2. Hanging Magnet Board
A while ago, I repurposed this silver plate serving tray into a magnet board/tray. It’s a fun idea and really simple, too. I find these trays all the time at the thrift store. I made the magnets using old jewelry pieces. Magnets are fun to make and they make great gifts. You can make magnets out of just about anything……small.
3. Silver Platter Wreath
I instantly fell in love with this door wreath by Dinah from DIY Inspired. She painted a silver plate tray with chalkboard paint and added the greenery and bow. I’ve never made a silverplate wreath but I see on in my near future.
4. Table Centerpiece
Fill a large shiny silverplate coffee urn with a bouquet of flowers, faux or real.
5. Candlestick Photo Display
A simple DIY that makes an impact. The silver plate candlestick photo holder from Homeroad can be used to display all kinds of things. Placing the wine cork in the holder spot for the candle and adding the wire was genius.
6. Faux Succulent Planter
I used a fancy silver plate bowl to display faux succulents and set it on a bedside table in the guest bedroom. You want your guest bedroom to be welcoming and you can do that by adding things like candles, plants, lamps, and throws.
7. Christmas Display
Silver plate trays come in all shapes, sizes, and designs. I like the ones that have little feet and scalloped sides. This one was perfect for filling with fake snow (Epsom Salts) and miniature Christmas ornaments. Santa and the Reindeer completed the look.
8. Silver Plate Goblet Candle

9. Silver Plate Ribbon Organizer – Painted
I know I’m going to get some flack for spray painting the silver plate stand. In my defense, I made this project years ago and if I had it to do over again, would not paint it. The piece does make a great ribbon organizer.
10. Display Christmas Ornaments
There is really no need to recreate everything. Old silver plate is great for displaying all kinds of things. I filled this pretty bowl with silver Christmas ornaments.
11. Silver Plate Jewelry Stand
I’m a sucker for silver plate candelabras and I admit to never thinking to use them to organize jewelry. My friend Sarah shined this one up and it looks so fancy with all that bling.
12. Silver Plate Tray And Dome
The things you can display under a cloche or a cheese dome are endless. Of course, they have to be small. I’ve even displayed pretty drawer pulls in a cloche. This Christmas display with miniature village houses is from Shabby Sweet Cottage.
13. Christmas Tray Display
Fill silver plate sugars and creamers with snowmen, miniature Christmas trees, tiny ornaments, or other seasonal decor. Set them on a table in any room of the house. The sugar and creamer sets can also be used as desk organizers for paper clips and such.
14. Silver Plate Chalkboard Wreath
Create a festive and welcoming door wreath for Christmas using a silver plate tray or platter. Paint it with chalkboard paint and decorate it with Christmas greenery. Add a fabulous ribbon hanger as the final touch.

I have a silver champagne bucket I picked up on one of my “dumpster dives” (my kids phrase, but they sometimes find my “diving” useful to them- LOL). Is there a way to get rid of the etching on it without damaging it? LOVE to see all your creations! I love to recycle, repurpose, and reuse other peoples “junk”.

I love silver plate, I even enjoy cleaning the tarnish from it. But I’m not very creative. I do like seeing it alongside my white ironstone odds and ends. But I wanted to tell you that there is a You tube video today from Real Nifty Vintage showing him shopping Butler’s. The title is wrong, he named it Georgia instead of KY. I thought you might enjoy it. I would love to go shopping there, but I’m in TX. Maybe someday.

I did a couple of silver trays by sanding lightly and spray painting them. When they were dry I went back and added a stencil design on one and a decoupaged a big sunflower that filled most of the space on the flat part of the tray. I was really happy the way they can out. One is going on the top of a dresser the other will be used as a tray for outside.

Kathy, like you I really like the look of the wreath made of silver platters/round trays. But like you said the weight could be problematic. You’d really need the hanger to be strong–fastened to a stud for sure!
Then there are those beautiful wind chimes. I’d love to hear what they sound like!
I was wondering if you could hang the silver pieces you have that match—the coffee pot, teapot and sugar and creamer–hang them vertically one under the other on a long, rustic board or something that is a contrast to the refined design of the silver items. I don’t know, just an idea. You wouldn’t really be repurposing them, just displaying them. But it could be attractive in the right setting.
I’m afraid that’s all I have for inspiration at the moment! I’ll be interested to learn what you end up doing with the pieces.

Love your ideas, but you have so many large pieces. Why don’t you make a lamp by stacking them on a lamp pole? Stagger them a little, left to right, sort of zigzag style. The pole I have in mind is the narrow (just big enuff for the wiring to thread through) kind you’d find at the lamp parts department of the big box stores. Just an idea!
