New mantel display featuring my $6 framed painting.

What do you think?

What a difference just painting the frame makes.

prepping to paint Petticoat Junktion

It was easy too…put painters tape around the frame to protect the painting…grab a brush, gloves, off-white paint….and go to town.

Two coats of paint is required.

As soon as the paint is dry remove the tape.

distressing paint with sandpaper Petticoat Junktion

Grab some 100 grit sandpaper and distress the frame details.

Brush the dust from the frame using a large paint brush.

Hang the painting.

Don’t you love those distressed details.

The gold frame was a little too formal for my taste.

The white works well with the soft colors of the painting.

Kathy, I noticed you used RECLAIM paint….is there a reason why that paint instead of other types you usually use? Maybe that’s what you had for left overs…so I understand. Reclaim is quite expensive that’s why I asked. Thanks for such a GREAT inspiration…now I know what to do with a few of my own pictures.

Karen, I love RECLAIM. I’m actually a retailer for Reclaim paint. I started retailing Caromal Colours paint years ago and when the company started the Reclaim line I begin retailing that line also. Reclaim is one of my favorite paint brands. The price is offset by how far the paint goes and the fact that it is a primer, paint, and sealer all in one.

I love the distressed white frame! Your painting looks nothing like its former self. The colors in the painting do look softer and appear to blend one into the other to give it kind of dreamy appearance. The gold frame was awful. Having said that, I’m not sure I like the rusty background grate the painting is hanging on. I’m not sure I know what I would do with it, but in my opinion, I think it detracts from the white of the frame, the mantel and other mantel accessories as well as the white in the brick wall. All of that aside, the painting hanging just as is looks gorgeous and classy…you did a fabulous job.

Hi, I’m Kathy

I love to paint furniture. And I absolutely swoon over rusty junk, chippy paint, antique hardware, architectural salvage, and rhinestone jewelry. Every day's an adventure... come along for the ride! MORE
